Movies Watched, August 2017

August was a particularly hard month. I had some misfortunes at home, deteriorating health, and so on. My mood and mental health took a hard hit out of everything so I decided to take a small break — as seen in the shortage of post. My watched list reduced rather greatly compared to last months due to such cause. Thought I'd give a longer commentary here just to compensate.

August 1st to August 31st. Total: 9 movies

  1. Brooklyn’s Finest (2009) — I still think this movie is all over the place but pretty okay, albeit not that solid.
  2. Thor (2011) — forever a trash for Thor and Jane Foster. NOBODY TALKED ENOUGH ABOUT THEM. A god meets a scientist, each has a different understanding of how the world works yet they are still very respective over each other. Talk about a power couple.
  3. This Is the End (2013) — most of the time, comedy movie is a simple, no-brainer thing. Put funny people together, insert well-known people as a cameo, run a basic plot where they either have to get frustrated or have fun together, and that's it. Which is why this movie succeeded. Big time.
  4. Batman: The Killing Joke (2016) — in eternal words of The Killers: "but she's touching his chest now // he takes off her dress now // let me go // I just can't look it's killin' me". It's one of the worst adaptations I've ever seen. And to think that the book was a masterpiece, this is blasphemy.
  5. Immortals (2011) — Tarsem, you're a director of my own heart but please find a better plot for your movies!
  6. The Impossible (2012) — once I thought the boy playing Lucas would go far. Look at him now. He's our Spider-Man 😢
  7. Les Misérables (2012) — IT WAS SO GOOD. Near flawless. Regretted why I couldn't finish it sooner.
  8. The Hitman’s Bodyguard* (2017) — WHERE IS THE WHITNEY HOUSTON SONG GIMME WHITNEY HOUSTON SONG lol jk. Though there are definitely some wasted potentials, overall it's a light and fun movie.
  9. TRON: Legacy (2010) — always so entertaining

Movies marked with an asterisk were watched in cinema. For a full list please go ahead to my Letterboxd. Also, for a real-time update, hop on to my diary where I (might) wrote slightly longer review on the movie. Here's my list for January, February, March, April, May, June, and July.
