Movies Watched, December 2017

Welcome to another edition of Tannya babbling about her days under the disguise of movie listicles. By the half of the year 2018, you will find this blog have already switched from personal to solely movie review under the name of "The Cinema Lady".

I am joking. But that doesn't sound like a bad idea either.

Last November, my brother diagnosed with TBC and he's currently undergoing 6-to-9 months of treatment. He is fine — no more coughing up blood and feeling so weak all the time. I was diagnosed with rather chronic gastritis and I have to eat all the time. We were on a bit of health problem by the last quarter but we will get it by. We are fine right now. In wise words of Doctor Strange, "Pain is an old friend." All of those things happened made it feels harder and harder to talk about my days as it always seems so bleak and dark and foggy. I have no strength to argue with anything anymore yet I guess I take things rather calmly nowadays. I found a way not to be so angry with the world. Instead of "Why me?" I find it easier to say "Oh well" and move on. Is it a sign of optimism or tiredness? Stay tuned as I find out.

In other note, I am pleased with movies I watched in December. I always associate Christmas and holiday with Home Alone and yet I found it shifting to Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings. Millennial much? A TV channel broadcasted The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings marathon and I enjoyed them so much. Continued on with Mission Impossible and Transformers which were just as fun. I also managed to catch Justice League on cinema in which I found rather overwhelming despite the characters were really loveable — except Superman. Did you catch it too? Tell me what you think about it!

December 1st to December 31st. Total: 20 movies

  1. Justice League* (2017) — the tone is all over a place. Too light for a Snyder, too dark for a Whedon. Shitty plot with even messier execution but it's good that the characters' chemistry is top-notch.
  2. Desperado (1995) — A Classic™.
  3. Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)
  4. Passengers (2016) — man fucks up everytime. This time, in space.
  5. Captain America: Civil War (2016) — made an essay in my letterboxd review.
  6. Pitch Perfect 2 (2015) — endlessly fun.
  7. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012)
  8. The Angry Birds Movie (2016)
  9. The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (2013)
  10. The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (2014) — I am always in the middle when it comes to The Hobbit simply because I cannot fault it yet I cannot like it too much either. But this viewing made me realized some flaws.
  11. The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001) — a masterpiece.
  12. The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002) — a brilliant masterpiece.
  13. The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003) — perfection.
  14. Die Hard (1988) — if you think this is not a Christmas movie then we're not friends.
  15. Last Vegas (2013)
  16. Mission: Impossible (1996) — ultimate favorite.
  17. Mission: Impossible II (2000)
  18. Mission: Impossible III (2006)
  19. Chef (2014) — the New Orleans bit colored me green with envy.
  20. Transformers: Age of Extinction (2014)

Movies marked with an asterisk were watched in cinema. For a full list please go ahead to my Letterboxd. Also, for a real-time update, hop onto my diary where I (might) wrote slightly longer review on the movie. Here's my list for January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, and November.

I'll try to post the half-year review before the end of the month so watch this space. Hereby, here's to glow-up and grow-up 2018 🍻
